I have always been interested in Nutrition science because nutrition is one the most important factors to obtain optimal wellness and have a healthy life. In our current society, in which many people eat on the run, we often go for the quickest foods to get rid of hunger sensation. Most people do not know and they do not care about what they eat. They will care more when they discover they have heart disease, diabetes, or other conditions caused by this type of lifestyle. The importance of nutrition to prevent disease and have a hearty life was clear to me. This was the main reason for my interest in Nutrition major. I am a dietetic technician registered (DTR), and attained BS and MS degree in Nutrition.
I am a mother of three beautiful kids, so I understand the pregnancy journey and food-related complications, and I know how nutrition is important during pregnancy, and early stages of life.
My goal is to educate people about healthy eating and motivate individuals to keep up a healthy lifestyle. My first emphasis is on prenatal and kids’ nutrition because healthy eating should start from the beginning of forming a fetus. Second, is educating employees on healthy eating, so we will have a healthier workplace and a healthier society as a result.
Over the past years, malnutrition has decreased. However, chronic diseases, many of which are significantly related to diet, have steadily increased.
I believe that by learning what and how to eat in different stages of life, we can lower the incidence of chronic diseases and have a longer and more productive life.
I have a lot of passion for educating people about healthy eating and a lifetime food plan. Each person has different needs depending on age, gender, weight, height, and specific health conditions.
I am especially passionate about teaching prenatal nutrition classes for moms-to-be or women who are planning to get pregnant. Good nutrition is key for a healthy pregnancy, healthy mom, and healthy baby, but may not get a lot of attention during your childbirth classes. What you eat during pregnancy directly affects your baby in every aspect, such as his or her brain development. Some nutrient deficiencies during pregnancy have severe outcomes. We discuss all food groups, the right amount to eat from each group, all essential nutrients during pregnancy and their food sources, and an example food plan.
Studies show “office workers frequently drink, dine out, miss breakfast, lack exercise and experience nutritional imbalance.” Therefore, some employees may experience chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
Nutrition education helps to improve lifestyles and lower incidences of chronic diseases. These classes help to reduce healthcare costs, increase efficiency, and decrease employee absences, resulting in increased productivity.
